Governors

Martin Gilraine

Chair of Governors

Welcome from the Chair of Governors

My name is Martin Gilraine and in July 2023 I was appointed Chair of Governors at Stanton Vale School.

Alongside the Headteacher, her team, and the whole school community I wholeheartedly support the core values of Stanton Vale,

Working Together, Respect, Aspiration, and Potential

As Governors, we are committed to supporting the Headteacher to help our students achieve their full potential in an inclusive, vibrant, and exciting educational community. Our focus is not only the school experience of each student but ensuring a successful transition into adulthood.

The Governing body exists to serve five main purposes,

  • To provide strategic direction for the improvement of the school whilst ensuring the school has a clear vision, direction, and ethos.
  • To support and encourage our Headteacher, Senior Leadership Team, and all school personnel, to ensure that every one of our children has access to an enriched education and to all the opportunities that they deserve.
  • To monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the school.
  • To hold the school and Headteacher to account for the standards achieved and the quality of education.
  • To oversee the financial performance of the school in these very challenging times to ensure that the money the school receives is spent wisely.

As Chair, my role is to act as a critical friend to the Headteacher and to support her in the complex decision-making required to successfully run and continuously improve her school.

As Governors our role is to hold the Headteacher and her leaders accountable for the best educational provision and outcomes whilst delivering excellent value for money.

I endeavour to give of my best in this role and look forward to being a part of this school’s wonderful community.

Gemma Crammond – Vice Chair/Parent Governor

I started as a parent governor in September 2020.  Due to not being well in 2023 I had to stop as a governor for most of the year, but was keen to get back to being part of the governing board at Stanton Vale School.  Prior to having my son, my background has been in training and education.  I worked with young people with disabilities, supporting them to use public transport independently.  Prior to that I worked in mediation and conflict resolution, as well as mental health/personal development.

I’m passionate about supporting Stanton Vale to be the best it can be, and help provide a happy, safe and enabling environment for all its students.

As a parent governor I am keen to provide a parent perspective, and encourage great communication between school and student’s families/carers.

Aimee Perkinson

I joined Stanton Vale as a Governor in July 2023. I currently work in Education as a Deputy Headteacher of a Primary School in Long Eaton where my role involves teaching and supporting the development of the school. I have been teaching since 2012 and have been Designated Safeguarding Lead in my previous school for 2 years. I have a first-class degree in Education Studies, I have a keen interest in Special Educational Needs as well as Safeguarding and I hope to bring my knowledge and experience to the role of Governor.

Chloe Underwood

I joined as a governor in December 2023 and currently work in Communications at a university. I became a governor at Stanton Vale, as I wanted to add value to my community after moving to the area.

Already in my short time as a governor, I can see that Stanton Vale is a wonderful school, dedicated to providing a safe and happy place for students to learn and grow.

I hope that in my time as a governor I can help Stanton Vale provide opportunities for their students and staff.
